[Hebron] I sincerely hope the Great Lakes Basin Railroad is not permitted to build. Allowing them to do so will put my family at risk of losing its only water source. Where we live relies on well water and there is no other source of water for our home. We live too far south in Porter County (IN) to qualify for Lake Michigan water. One incidence of a train containing anything toxic derailing (or other disaster) in southern Lake and Porter County, and my drinking, cooking, and food-growing water source is gone. I am but one of thousands of residents who will be impacted for this same reason, many of whom grow food (or raise animals for food) for more than just themselves. I would also like to mention that no matter how safely they claim they can make the rail system, mother nature causes many tornadoes throughout our area, any one of which can pick up a toxic laden train and cause it to spill it's contents, destroying our water source. Some of the Lake and Porter County land that the GLB wants to use is prone to flooding, which makes a great resting area for many thousands of migrating geese, ducks, and other birds. This part of Porter County is also home to blue herons, hawks, owls, deer, fox, coyotes, and other wildlife that will be disturbed by the construction of and running of 110 trains daily. (And it would be hard to run trains on flooded tracks.) I realize that you only look at environmental impact, but there will be an impact to the human and animal life living here, as well as an environmental impact. I thank you for reading this and hope your decision is not in favor of the Great Lakes Basin Railroad.
