Please DO NOT APPROVE THIS PROJECT!!!!!! Dear Mr. Navecky, I am writing to you today because I wholeheartedly oppose the proposed route of the Great Lakes Basin Railway. I live quite close to the proposed route and am worried that the hazardous material the train will carry will poison the groundwater if an accident should occur. The track will take a sharp turn near me and derailments occur on sharp curves. I also moved to the country for the peace and quiet we have enjoyed for years. These tracks will ruin this peace. More importantly is what these tracks will do to my dear friends and neighbors. Many have farms that have been in their families for generations. They will be paid a ridiculously small amount for their land compared to the inconvenience of farming around these tracks, the damage the trains would do to the farmland, and the huge property value decrease that will occur. Eastern Boone county has some of the most fertile farmland in the state of Illinois and probably the country! Why would anyone put a railway carrying hazardous material near such a huge national resource! Our fine country was built on farming and farmers. PLEASE DO NOT LET THE GREAT LAKES BASIN RAILROAD RUIN FARMS IN EASTERN BOONE COUNTY! The original route that would take the train through western Winnebago county and down Route 39 makes much more sense! Sincerely, Richard and Karen Turner 3790 Shattuck Rd.
