FD 35852 · CANAVERAL PORT AUTHORITY - PETITION FOR EXEMPTION TO CONSTRUCT AND OPERATE A RAIL LINE EXTENSION TO PORT CANAVERAL, FL

Comment EI-21230

Received or sent (printed as 10/30/2015)

To the surface transportation board. Please be advised that I am against building a rail across the Banana River. The lagoon has a limited outlet to the Atlantic Ocean through the lock at Port Canaveral. Net water flow is from the IRL to the BRL because the rate of evapotranspiration exceeds rainfall and basin inflows. The BRL system is a “negative estuary,” characterized by low freshwater inflows and poor flushing, resulting in high water residence time. The Negative Impact can only be Increased with the rail line further cutting into water flow.
