FD 35852 · CANAVERAL PORT AUTHORITY - PETITION FOR EXEMPTION TO CONSTRUCT AND OPERATE A RAIL LINE EXTENSION TO PORT CANAVERAL, FL

Comment EI-20827

Received or sent (printed as 12/19/2014)

Since 2009, the N. Banana River zone has suffered a 72% loss of seagrass. The citizens in the IRL watershed have worked hard to pass legislation and spend money to develop projects to improve the water quality to help the seagrass recover. Building a rail road bridge across the Banana River is a step in the wrong direction. Business's desire to make more money should not trump the will of the citizens to save the health of the Banana River and all the creatures that depend on it to live. The Merritt Island Nation Wildlife Refuge should remain a refuge period. The set aside for this protected, pristine area should not be: until business wants to use this land to make more money for themselves. These lands are finite and must be protected by government. The citizens' recent vote on Amendment 1 clearly shows the Fl. citizens desire to keep this land out of the influence of commercial use. Please use the power of big government to protect these lands without exception.
