FD 35852 · CANAVERAL PORT AUTHORITY - PETITION FOR EXEMPTION TO CONSTRUCT AND OPERATE A RAIL LINE EXTENSION TO PORT CANAVERAL, FL

Comment EI-20824

Received or sent (printed as 12/19/2014)

I support the rail extension project to connect Port Canaveral to eastern Florida rail lines. I have been a resident of Brevard County since 1986. I have worked at Port Canaveral as a Harbor Pilot since 2000, and I am active with the Propeller Club of Port Canaveral, currently serving as the club's President for 2014. I am submitting my comments as an individual citizen concerned with economic development for Brevard County and Central Florida. Rail connection to Port Canaveral is long overdue and I am sure that an objective analysis will show that connecting to the rail line on Kennedy Space Center will by far be the most cost effective and have the least impact on the environment and the community than any other alternative. I believe all concerns raised by citizens concerned with the environmental impact as well as homeowners concerned with a rail line near their homes can be satisfactorily addressed or mitigated. The idea that a bridge across the Banana River will cause untold damage to the lagoon is something that will not be scientifically supported. There are plenty of existing bridges across the lagoon and they are not the source of issues affecting lagoon health. This project is crucial to the future development of the Port to be able to handle the increased trade that is projected over the next 20 years and beyond.
