FD 35852 · CANAVERAL PORT AUTHORITY - PETITION FOR EXEMPTION TO CONSTRUCT AND OPERATE A RAIL LINE EXTENSION TO PORT CANAVERAL, FL

Comment EI-20810

Received or sent (printed as 12/18/2014)

Dear Mr. Navecky, I firmly object to the proposed Port Canaveral Rail Extension. Researching the proposal and probable shocking environmental impact on the Indian River Lagoon, high functioning wetlands, endangered threatened species and habitat, I object on environmental grounds. In terms of impact to endanagered, threatened, and species of special concern, please consider the brown pelican (pelicanis occidentalis, State Species of Special Concern [SSC), Florida sandhil crane (Grus canadensis pratensis, state threatened [ST]), Limpkin (Aramus guarauna (SSC), Beach nesting birds of the American oystercatcher (Haematapus palliatus,SSC), black skimmer, (Rynshops niger, SSC), Least tern (Sterna antillarum, ST), Snowy plover ( Charadrius alexandrines, ST), Little Blue heron (Egretta caerulea, SSC), Reddish egret ( Egretta rufescens, SCC), Roseeate spoonbill (Platalia ajaja, SSC), Snowy egret (Egretta thula, SSC), Tricolored heron ( Egretta tricolor, SSC), White ibis (Eudocimus albus, SSC). The project area may also provide habitat for marine turtles. I request that the EIS include all the above species and a commitment to consider the potential impacts to these species. Please consider the alternate route for the Port's rail extension along the State Road 528. That route would spare all the above species great damage up to and including extinction. Thank you for the opportunity to submit comments. Mary E. Hillberg
