As a taxpayer and resident of Brevard County I oppose the Port Canaveral rail link through the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge. This is public land, set aside as a protected place for wildlife, the public, and the national purpose of space exploration. Definite commitments were made as to how this land is to be used. They have legal protection. Nowhere does it commit them to private profit as the Port is proposing: using public land to benefit private industries. This is not the intent of the long-standing guarantees, and would no doubt wind up in court. Insofar as tax monies are used to maintain these lands it is also using tax dollars to benefit private industry which is illegal under Florida statutes. I urge you to deny any permissions to use Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge and Space Center lands for transporting commercial cargo trains. As an agency of the government you should certainly protect public commitments and laws.
