As a resident of Barrington, I am disappointed by the DEIS which was recently issued regarding the CN purchase of the EJ&E railroad. I do not think the STB has adequately taken into account the extreme negative impact increasing freight traffic will have on our community. The DEIS did not include grade separation arrangements for the Route 14 crossing or the Union Pacific crossing. There is a real danger to the health and safety of residents regarding delayed transportation to hospitals and the many children on foot in the area. We will lose businesses and our quality of life will be severely lessened as we experience long delays in traffic and increased pollution of all kinds. The STB should deny CN's request altogether or force it to pay all the costs of mitigation set forth by the community organizations.
