Received or sent (printed as 8/21/2008)

I object to your obvious effort to minimize public input to the proposed purchase of the EJ&E rail lines by Canadian National. When the original public meetings were scheduled, you avoided any meetings in the vast expanse between West Chicago and Joliet, IL. Having been caught on you efforts to expedite the approval process, you were forced to provide a meeting in the Naperville - Aurora area. Your continued effort to expedite the approval process became even more apparent when you selected the furthest possible location from the affected neighborhoods for the next meeting. The site recommended by Tom Wiesner, mayor of Aurora, for the meeting was Waubonsie Valley High School. Even if there had been a conflict with using that school, there are adjacent library and park district locations which would have been appropriate. This location is within two miles from the primary impact of the Canadian National purchase. It is part of the school district which covers most of the Naperville and Aurora residences which are impacted by the proposed purchase. Your choice of an Aurora school for the location, and the furthest Aurora school from the affected neighborhoods, is an obvious effort to minimize public input to the approval process. West Aurora High School covers a district which has absolutely no concern for the proposed purchase. It covers the far west portion of Aurora. There is an East Aurora High School, which is far closer to the proposed purchase impact area, but it also represents an area with minimal concern about the proposed purchase. It is apparent that you realize these facts, and used that knowledge to select the meeting site.
