Regarding the CN takeover of the EJ&E... 1) The number of trains going around or through Chicago will be the same, whether the current routing is kept, or the new routing over the EJ&E is chosen. 2) There is greater density of population within the city of Chicago and around the various yards currently used than there is around the EJ&E. More people are currently affected by rail traffic than would be under the EJ&E routing. 3) The EJ&E routing is far more efficient. It is in the best interest of our nation's commerce to use this route. 4) The EJ&E route already exists, and is already in use. The actual impact on towns along the way would be minimal. 5) A significant part of the EJ&E routing is through rural countryside, with few people around. Take a ride over the property, you'll see that most of the right-of-way is not through populated areas.
