I am writing to protest the CN aquisition of the EJ&E. As a resident of Northwest Indiana at the crossroads of the US I feel that we are at our capacity as far as freight dispersement. Night and day trains are hauling freight through the are that I live. I can hardly ride my bicycle without waiting for a trainload of double stacked made in China stuff to go down the tracks. We in Northwest Indiana need more commuter trains. This purchase would take away valuable resources from this project also. I believe my congressman says it best when he states: The EJ&E line running through the region would, on average, see a three-fold increase in the number of trains per day and an increase in train length from 2,590 feet to 6,321 feet. The result would bisect communities, impede the flow of automobile traffic, increase emissions, and add public safety hazards. The proposed acquisition also would create new obstacles to the expansion of the South Shore Line and would hinder the expansion of Gary/Chicago International Airport. None of that would be good for Northwest Indiana." I oppose this aquisition and believe the impact statement does not fully reflect the full impact that this aquisition would have on the residents of Northwest Indiana."
