I am alarmed at the outcry of people from the Suburban Chicago area concerning the CN purchase of the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railway. I am a former resident of Plainfield, IL along the EJ&E, within 1 mile of a crossing. The overall good of the entire region needs to be the priority over small special interest groups who are opposing it. The flow of traffic, the security of trains and their cargo, the emissions of diesel exhaust far outweigh the perceived inconveniences of additional trains. From 1978 until 1986 I lived in Coon Rapids, Minnesota very near a public crossing of then Burlington Northern Railroad. That crossing saw at least 40 trains per day back then, and trains blocking the crossing were not an issue for traffic or emergency vehicles. I strongly feel that a few vocal people with their own special interest at heart, are trying to confuse the real issue of efficient flow of Interstate Commerce and National Security, and clean air for Chicago.
