I am opposed to the accquisition of the EJ&E Railway by the CN RR for the following reasons: the environmental impact of increasing train traffic would be tremendous with my home being located within a quarter mile of the RR. The first impact would be the tying up of the eastern access to the village of the only two access roads by the increased train traffic of a long train almost every hour (CN estimates). The noise pollution would be onerous. We are now awakened by the loud whistling of only 4 trains per day. In addition, the air quality will be compromised due to the increased diesal pollution from rail traffic for both our community and the surrounding forest preserve area. The increase in rail traffic also brings the potential threat of environmental dangers of hazardous waste spills if a railway accident should occur. Finally the economic impact on the resale value of our homes cannot be understated. I appreciate your time in listening to my concerns.
