As a frequent commuter of the area and a citizen with parents in Wayne, IL, I’m asking you all to get involved and help stop the proposed sale of EJ&E Railroad to the Canadian National RR. The following are just a short list of the problems this will cause for our community because train traffic will increase from 4.4 trains per day to 24.4 per day: 1. Interference with emergency services such as fire, ambulance, police etc. The delays we will experience because of this proposed increase in Rail traffic WILL at some point be DEADLY because it just took too long to respond. 2. Increase risk of accidents due to crossing of traffic at small RR crossings with limited visibility. This is particularly disturbing as I think about my sister driving over these tracks several times a day with her two small children. 3. Noise, air and huge potential for ground pollution. Many of the homes in this area literally have these tracks in their back yards and ALL of the homes in this area are on well’s which could be destroyed by one spill of hazardous waste. 4. Interference with commuter trains all along this route 5. Potential impact on Pratt’s Wayne Woods Forest Preserve This is just a short list that comes nowhere near identifying all the problems this will cause. Please do your part and tell us what we can do further to stop this from happening!!
