Comment EI-6023

Received or sent (printed as 1/24/2008)

We are writing out of concern over docket number 35087 (the acquisition of EJ&E Rail Line by the Canadian National Railway). This acquisition would seriously lower the standard of life for those of us whose homes are close to the tracks (ours is directly behind the tracks). The noise from the horns can be very unsettling and the dramatic increase in trains (from 18, currently, to 42.6 trains per day, projected) will undoubtedly lower our property values. The tracks are already in hopeless disrepair and the increase in train coverage will surely diminish the life of the tracks. Also a concern is the traffic jams that will undoubtedly occur due to the additional trains. If someone needed an emergency vehicle (be it firetruck, ambulance, 911 emergency), how would these additional trains affect our lives? It could essentially cost us our lives if the vehicles could not get through. The resale value of our homes is also a concern to us and I would implore you to please help us say 'no' to the acquisition of EJ&E Rail Line by the Canadian National Railway. Thank you for your consideration on this matter. Sincerely, Heather and Nathan Van Der Male 3290 Ridgefield Court Lockport, IL 60441
