Mr. Blodgett, My family and I are very concerned with the increased rail traffic that will occur if the Canadian National Railway acquires the EJ&E Railway. At least in our area of Naperville and Aurora IL., the tracks are very close to several housing communities and schools. We have been told that train/frieght activity will increase 3-4 times over the current load. This acquisition will have a negative environmental impact on our area due to increased noise/vibration, air pollution and the obvious danger associated with the transportation of hazardous chemicals. Additionally, our school district is building a new highschool in north Aurora/Naperville which will result in a significant shift in school boundaries. These revised boundaries will send several hundred new children over these tracks everyday. The crossing points/gates along this area are also very antiquated/deficient especially along Wolf Crossing, Normantown Rd and Montgomery Rd) and I do not believe that they are adequate for this level of increased train traffic along with the increased car/bus traffic due to the shifted school boundaries. We could be faced with very unsafe crossing conditions and delays. Of other concerns is the negative impact the increased rail traffic will cause to the market value of our properties. We are asking you to please help our communities along this rail system by preventing the aquisition of the EJ&E by the Canadian National Railway. Sincerely, Barb Soares
