The EJ&E rail line runs through the center of Barrington and crosses 3 major roads as well as the Union Pacific commuter line. Twenty freight trains in addition to the 64 daily commuter trains would bring traffic through Barrington to a standstill and would endanger lives by blocking access to the hospital and police and fire stations. Canadian National Railroad must not be allowed to buy the line and increase the number of freight trains traveling through Barrington. Anyone considering this issue should drive through Barrington on route 59, 14 or Lake Cook Road between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. and imagine a freight train blocking all three roads. The situation in Barrington is unique because a freight train could block all three roads at once leaving emergency vehicles with no alternative route.
