I am writing to express my vehement opposition to the proposed buyout of EJ&E by CN. Because of the extensive number of at-grade crossings in our area (Barrington) this will essentially cut the community in half for extensive periods every day. Our environment will be radically changed by hourly trains, each of which may extend over 1000 feet. It will be difficult if not impossible for emergency vehicles to get from one side of the tracks to the other. The noise will be overwhelming, with train horns sounding in crowded residential areas at all hours of the day and night. There are also important safety issues, with many buses taking children to Barrington High School forced to cross the tracks at grade. I am deeply opposed to this buyout, which will benefit corporate shareholders to the absolute detriment of residents of the affected areas. I urge the STB to reject this deal in the strongest possible terms. JM
