With regard to Canadian National’s proposed acquisition of the Elgin Joliet and Eastern line in the Chicago area, I have significant concerns regarding the impact on public safety of my family and community. I am a resident of Deer Park living approximately one block from the EJ&E crossing over Cuba Road along with three other crossings within a span of less than one mile. If freight traffic is allowed to quadruple, there will certainly be long periods where traffic will be prevented access to the east and south of my home. This could affect the timeliness of response by public safety responders. Canadian National has now gone on record as saying that it will be up to State and Federal funding to construct grade separations costing as much as $100 million each. I am very concerned about our safety and access to services in our area. Please take these concerns into consideration when deliberating on the approval of this transaction. Thank you.
