To Whom it May Concern: I recently was made aware of Canadian National's intent to purchase EJ&E railway. After doing some research on the subject I am extremely concerned about the effects this would have on the Village of Lake Zurich as well as the surrounding towns. The EJ&E line currently runs through several roads in Lake Zurich and behind two large schools in Lake Zurich. These trains run throughout the day and in the evening and cause quite a bit of traffic on roads utitlized during peak travel times. From what I have read if CN were to purchase the railroad they would run 20 freight trains a day. This is astonishing to me as I can't imagine what this would do to traffic in the area as well as the potential safety hazards it would cause. Lake Zurich is a family community. Children are everywhere. I know for a fact that they use the back of the school (where the railroad goes) as a cut through. They are also always in the parks in downtown Lake Zurich (where the rail line is). The roads in the area as well as the traffic patterns are not designed to withstand the congestion that CN's presence would cause. CN should not be able to run through such populated areas. In all of my research I have not found one positive impact that CN would have on our communities. So why is this even being taken into consideration? Please do not let CN purchase EJ&E. Thank you for you consideration.
