I am very concerned about the impact of a dramatic increase in freight train traffic in the Barrington/Lake Zurich area. I cannot imagine all of the ill-effects, but the following issues would definitely have a negative impact on the residents in our area: - Emergency vehicles such as police, ambulances, and fire departments could easily be delayed with the potential for dire consequences. - Access to the closest hospital in the area could be blocked for long periods of time. - Increased road traffic for those that take the train to work could increase commute times to the point that large numbers of people switch to driving. - Traffic congestion would affect children getting to and from school. - School bus route times could be extended and they are already very long for some children. - Increased danger to people, cars, and school buses crossing tracks with increased train traffic. - A large increase in both air and noise pollution. - Downtown Barrington would lose much of its appeal and shopping access. - Major roads in the area already have too much traffic during certain times of the day, freight train delays would make it unbearable. - Property values could decrease. Please do whatever you can to prevent this from happening. Sincerely, Linda Mesin
