I live near the Elgin, Joliet and Eastern Railway system in unincorporated Lake County, IL. I attended the informational meeting regarding the aquisition of the railroad by Canadian National Railway. I have great concerns about the safety of our neighborhood as it pertains to this situation. We live in an area that is strictly residential and has no industry. Our neighborhood is a quiet area with many children and senior citizens as residents. Our subdivision is right off the main thoroughfare of Rt. 60/83. When the train gates are down, traffic in our subdivision increases with non-residents speeding to cut through to another main street. Our children are endangered by this unwanted and unwarrented activity. We are also residents of a fire district that would have to cross these tracks or travel a great deal out of the way to deliver emergency fire or medical help to our neighborhood if a train were to be blocking the track. These scenarios increase by an incredible amount if the number of trains on these tracks increase as proposed. Please consider our homes, property values, and quality of life before allowing this merger to destroy this neighborhood. Thanks for listening.
