I am a resident in the Village of Barrington and will be directly and adversely impacted by CN's acquisition of the E&J railroad. Quite frankly, I am astounded that STB could look at our small town and not immediately conclude that this acquisition would be disastrous to our quality of living, as well as dangerous to our quality of life. If the STB investigated, just for one day, they would see how the daily Metra train alone stops traffic for miles, multiple times a day. And now you are going to allow freight trains of up to 10,000 feet of length further clog our area? This will, in fact, block all major intersections of our town AT ONE TIME. How can you agree to an acquisition that will essentially trap the residents? I know you have been provided with facts and examples of how horrendous this proposal will affect the residents of this area. While I hope these numbers provide you with the quantitative evidence governing boards need to see, this is really a matter of common sense. Barrington is a remote, heavily wooded, area with many beautiful parks and nature preserves. We have fought to keep the area from being overdeveloped. And this is a reason many people have chosen to settle here. If you do end up approving this transaction, I want to know what you are going to say to all of us affected by this decision? We shouldn't have moved to an area that had an existing railroad track? How unfortunate for us to realize that a Canadian Railroad company and their investors are more important that US residents and taxpayers.
