I was disappointed in Rep. Bean's email after the hearings. It seems that many citizens short-term concerns are more important than thinking about our long-term planning. Yes, the proposal will create congestion, noise and other nuisances unless we think long-term to address these issues. What is needed in the Metropolitan Chicago area is to move the trains off-grade. This is a problem throughout the Chicagoland area. This involves a significant commitment by us as a nation and region, but in the long-term, it would be well worth it. The positive examples I can point out are Evanston and Winnetka (I am assuming that whoever is reading this is familiar with the Chicagoland area.) The worst example is the approach into Untion Station in the Loop from the north. (An innovative solution to those problems would be to move the trains down one level so that the current train concourse could become a mall with the trains underneath. This could open up more exits and would be more attractive. Just a thought). In closing, I would like to suggest that we take this opportunity to fix the transit system with a long-term solution of moving the trains off-grade. This would solve most of the problems that I heard mentioned in Rep. Bean's email. Thank you, Nancy Wallace
