CNR COMMENT As a teacher I have always allowed critizism if an alternative is suggested.Listening is necessary to solve problems. As an educator and parent in The Barrington Area I am frightened by the idea that the CNR would have the ability to destroy every aspect of our town, affecting every age individual's life stlye and means of livelihood without any thought to the reality of destrution of the scope of their endevor. You are greatly aware of the safety, educational, economical and mental and physical stresses this project will cause on hundreds of thousands of people in communities. There are other ways. We have been made aware of other rail tracks that are not in use that would work for CNR, causing less effect on local towns. The money necessary to fix interections and crossings and residential areas would be much more then updating these other tracks. FACT: There are NO BENEFITS to any community through which this rail wants to pass.It will only destroy those towns. It is an embarrassment to the State and its governing bodies that they cannot come out strongly against this. The talk already among high schoolers is how fast and what is the easiest way around gates, distances and timing before train might hit cars : how fast can kids run to cross before it may hit then so they are not late for school. These conversations are in jest but we all know EVERYONE thinks that way. Small children also walk across these tracks to get to school. As a teacher, I know school disruption will be huge. Buses and children will be late and emergency services will be greatly deminished. How many lives will be at risk? How many is too many? and when it gets to that point, nothing legally can be done. How does CNR slip through legal responsibilities? As citizens we will be fined for crossing track on foot or vechicle at the wrong time, But they,CNR, cannot be fined for their passing times, number or length of train and problems as a result of them. Will they replace a burning home and its contents,or medical care or funeral expenses resulting from their tie ups? How do big corporations get the breaks at the huge expense and loss of communities? We ar all in awe that the idea for this proposal can even be considered. If this was YOUR TOWN you would be irrate! ONCE CNR is granted access there is no turning back and they will be in control, with no limits. HELP US! Wynn Ann Roggeveen This is not even a humane possibility. Does the dept not see that? T
