Dear Phillis Johnson-Ball, I am deeply concerned about the proposed Railway Acquisition by Canadian National Railway of the EJ&E Railway. As a homeowner that lives next to the EJ&E Railway, I believe that this transaction will cause great harm to my community for the following reasons: Safety - The EJ&E Railway is extremely close to my community and to the grade school that my children, Olivia and Sophia, attend. The additional railway traffic will undoubtedly increase the chance that a horrible accident will occur. The Smith Rd. and Powis Rd. intersection is already relatively unsafe. It should be noted that my neighbors and friends chose to live in this neighborhood because of the relative safety that this neighborhood affords. Noise – Due to certain transportation regulations, locomotives that pass the intersection of Smith Rd. and Powis Rd. must sound their horn before passing. This causes an extremely loud noise that wakes up people, including my children, when they are sound asleep at night. The current level of traffic is not that unpleasant, but to increase it to a level that is more than ten times as much will make it unbearable. Home Value – The increased safety concerns and noise levels will decrease our home values. The current housing market is already very painful to all of us, but increasing railway traffic in our neighborhood will amplify our pain. Please help us prevent this transaction from occurring for the sake of my neighbors, friends and especially my children. Thanks for your help on this matter. Julius Gapuz
