As a resident of the community east of the railway, I must state my protest to the acquisition of the Eastern Railway (EJ&E) by Canadian Railway. This is residential community with an elementary school, Peterson Elementary, very near the railroad. We cross this railway daily to take our children to lessons and are very concerned about numerous issues. High on the list is the safety factor and frequency of the freight and trasportation of hazardous material through a residential community. The roads crossing this railway are high traffic roads. The impact of multiple trains per hour is going to wreak havoc on an already difficult Wolf Crossing Road. These crossing simply can't withstand additional traffic and how will emergency vehicles travel when the rail ways will be running so frequently. Are we going to wait 15 minutes for a large frieght train to pass, only to see another coming shortly thereafter? This is a grave saftey concern. The constant sound of the trains will disrupt students in school, and negatively impact our quality of life. Hearing trains around the clock will make sleep and quite enjoyment nearly impossible. As an asthmatic and a parent of children with asthma I am gravely concerned about the additional emissions that an increas in trains will cause. I implore you to do something to stop this acquisition. This will severely impact our community, quality of life, way of life, and public health and safety. This is a RESIDENTIAL community not a freight yard. The city of Napervill has allotted land abutting the railways at Wolf Crossing for sports fields. Children will be frequently around, especially with a school nearby. In the day and age of terrorism, one has to be concerned about the attraction of hazardous waste travelling through quiet communities with children nearby.
