This is for STB Finance Docket no. 35087. My concerns on this issue are no doubt the same as virtually all Barrington area residents. Of primary importance is the impact that the significantly increased rail traffic would have on the safety of the community. The ability for police, ambulances and firefighters to respond - where time is extremely critical - will be severely and adversely affected. This in itself should hold enough weight for approval on any acquisition to be more scrutinized and rejected. Additionally, the traffic congestion with the current train schedules already causes tremendous headaches for commuters. With the proposed increase in freight traffic, attempts at traveling through the town will become extremely difficult and frustrating. The same can be said for Mundelein, where I spent many years working and had to cross over the same E J & E lines that will also be affected. Residents that live near train tracks are aware there will be noise and have learned to live with it. However, a fourfold increase is simply four times more noise pollution, which is quite disruptive to the generally peaceful environment and makes the lives of those around it that much less tolerable. Overall I am strenuously opposed to the CN acquisition. It is an absolute fact that this would be a huge detriment to the safety and lifestyle of Barrington residents.
