I wish to comment on the purchase of the E&J RR by Canadian RR. I have serious concerns about how this will affect the quality of life in our area. We live about a mile from the tracks, which I drive across everyday going to work or shopping. The crossing on Shoe Factory Rd. is at the bottom of a hill on a two-lane rural road, which backs the traffic up now with the infrequent freight trains we currently see. If the number of trains increases, this road will be unusable unless an overpass is built at the crossing. Now that the ten minute limit on the blocking of traffic has been overturned by the court, there won't be any leverage for the village to keep the crossing clear for drivers. Also, the noise will increase sigificantly, in an otherwise quiet area of new homes and forest preserves. Additional traffic will be a safety hassard for children in the area and for emergency vehicles trying to get through. This track passes next to a protected forest preserve with limited roadways through it. The increased noise and vibration will negatively impact we who live nearby and the wildlife in the forest. Last, the E&J railbed is envisioned as part of a new commuter line to connect our community with the airport and the rest of the Metra commuter rail lines. How could this work if the track is handling as many as twenty freight trains per day? I really hope that STB looks closely at the enviornmental impact this will have on us and our neighbors. Thank you for the opportunity to voice my opinion.
