Comment EI-4817

Received or sent (printed as 1/30/2008)

I write to absolutely oppose the CNR's proposal to purchase EJ&E lines and to run 20 freight trains per day over the lines which have not been heavily used. My reasons are: 1.Congestion - traffic is already horrendous during rush hour and worse if a traffic accident occurs. 2.Danger - children walk to school and cross these rail crossings. Ambulance access will be prevented, both for accidents and health emergencies. Police and Fire-brigade are very alarmed at these proposals. 3.Businesses in Barrington do not prosper already but with access blocked, potential customers will go elsewhere. 4.Barrington is particularly traversed by these rail lines; other areas will have bad problems caused by the increased rail traffic, but I believe we are particularly threatened. 5.If it takes a train 15minutes to pass, that means we will have 5 more hours of delay to contend with every day. I am sending a letter with full details of my comments. Very truly, Maureen E. Yates
