I am very concerned about all issues relative to CNN's acquisition of the E J & E. Are all parties acutely aware of the location in the northwest corridor of this freight line? There are numerous protected forest preserves with a multitude of wildlife, from deer all the way down to field mice. Many, many species of birds can be found in these areas. Additionally, many walking paths, bike paths, and horse trails weave their wave thru these areas, and are used all seasons of the year. Within these protected forest preserves can be found a multitude of small streams, lakes, and ponds. Because of the beauty of these areas, neighboring villages' and towns' residents, individuals as well as families, use the trails and picnic areas. I personally took my children, and now my grandchildren thru these areas for simply playing tag, biking, and birthday parties. These tracks go thru a huge variety of towns encircling the Chicago suburbs, most of which are residential and very much like those in the northwest area of concern. Additionally, the tracks are fairly close to the Fox River, which runs north and south, as close as 2 to 3 miles. I have huge environmental concerns, i.e.hazardous material spills, areas where the backyards of homes abut the right-of-way, noise pollution, air quality, not even getting into our quality of life. I have three daughters whose lives will be directly impacted as well as 3 grandchildren. And with a pending recession, which we have no control over, how will home values be affected by permitting this purchase? We homeowners certainly cannot individualy do anything about a recession; however, we are very involved in protecting our environment, i.e. recycling, living green", etc. I would hope that our input wpuld greatly influence the thinking of the Surface Transportation Board. Please let us know that our fears and concerns are a priority to you as individuals and as a group. Very sincerely. I thank you for reading this, top-to-bottom."
