IMPORTANT! As of Friday the Illinois Supreme Court invalidated fines for Train length of time spent blocking crossings, IF STATIONERY! There is no limit on moving so there now is NO deterrent to speed and length of trains. Check out Mundeliens Train problem of 2 1\2 hour blockage! and this was only one train at one site. If this had happened in our setting it would have covered 6 major crossings blocked. The Daily Herald said the average trains would start at 23.5 per day. That means, to get an average, there would be more at times. If in an ideal world they ran 1 or 2 per hour that could tie up crossings for up to 1/2 hour per hour! That does not include weather, back ups, breakdowns... * As a local teacher there is NO way students will arriving at schools anywhere near normal times. And since our bus company runs continuous routes, that means future routes will be delayed even more. Buses cross tracks 800 times a day NOT including those hundreds of kids that get to school in cars or other modes! * We only have emergency services in one area of our town. They will be land locked from all but 2 schools and will not even get to the local hospital. *DON'T let them site ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT AS A REASON FOR IT. IDLING CARS are a MAJOR CONTRIBUTOR to pollution , especially after only 10 seconds of idling. This will create HUGE idling back ups. If the trains are the least bit close, it would be possible for some to be stopped 2 times before getting through town if traffic is backed up enough! There will be MORE pollution concentrated in our area, and more noise. GOD FORBID ANY FORM OF ACCIDENT due to increase number of trains. Everything would be shut down and there would be no emergency access. this only increases our chances for accidents as people and children will be impatient and try to beat trains on foot, bikes and cars. * All of these tracks are crossed by children on foot and bike to get to schools or neighbors. * REMEMBER, ONCE THEY HAVE THE TRACK< THEY CAN CONTROL THE INCREASING AMOUNT OFTRAINS> The Illinois Supreme Court has already shown it cannot do anything.. * Traffic is already backed up just from the metra in the am and pm. This will only add to it. * Economically our town will suffer. We are only now trying to build and attract stores and residents but who would want to come here with such a travel hassle? Some of these roads are the only major roads to get through our town. One could not take any short cuts because the trains would run diagonally through and even block those. * Is IT WORTH EVEN ONE LIFE OR ONE'S LIVELIHOOD. WHO PAYS FOR THAT??? WHAT IF IT WAS YOUR HOME OR FAMILY???? * IF IT'S IN THE NAME OF PROGRESS. FOR WHOM???? NO ONE WILL WANT TO LIVE HERE ANY MORE!! WHERE ARE OUR LEGISLATORS??? This whole proposal is scary!!!!!
