I am writing you to express my opposition to the Canadian National Railway's planned acquisition of the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern line. This line runs directly west of my sub-division, Century Trace. The amount of rail traffic currently operating on this line is imposing enough, with the increase in rail traffic anticipated due to the acquisition this will severely impact auto traffic on 111th Street, 127th Street as well as Montgomery Avenue. All these areas are rapidly growing and auto traffic is increasing as it is. Furthermore, this rail line runs directly through a prairie wetland area in the Auburn Lakes sub-division. Increased rail traffic will have a detrimental affect on wildlife and the enjoyment of the wetland area by people. There are many children living in homes along this line, as well as a middle school along this rail line. Increasing rail traffic will no doubt result in increased potential for train vs pedestrian accidents involving students and children.
