I am very concerned about the proposed CN purchase of the EJ&E RR. If approved, this project will adversely impact street traffic, emergency response, noise pollution, adjacent residential property values, and public safety in Plainfield. This proposal also effectively eliminates the opportunity to construct the STAR Line commuter light rail link to Chicago and points in between. CN has a terrible track record for saftey and responsiveness to the communities they impact. Having said all of this, the overall risk to all of the adjacent communities is significant and must be taken into consideration. Approval of this proposal will doom our community and others affected to second tier status in the greater Chicagoland area. CN is a bad player in the RR industry. They must be asked all of the hard questions and forced to examine the mitigation of any impact on the surrounding communities. As I understand it, CN has declined to provide a business plan to demonstrate their future plans for increased rail traffic on the EJ&E. Approval of this proposal should be denied! The STB and all affected local communities should do everything possible to alert every resident potentially affected by this proposal. Thank you.
