January 2008 Dear Ms Johnson-Ball, Per our Village of Barrington Illinois website, the residents of this beautiful Barrington town are welcome to write to you regarding the possible acquisition of the EJ&E rail line by the Canadian National Railway company. (My letter continues below, and a copy is attached". I hope you are able to retrieve it...) We (The Barney Family) are home-owning residents of Barrington for over 15 years, with 3 young children. We lovingly chose to reside in Barrington and raise our family. Upon learning of the possible rail line acquisition above, we were deeply saddened and concerned. Under the current situation, the train lines are already very noisy in the middle of the night, as massive trains come barreling through Barrington, blowing their horns; seeming to us as their intentions are to rudely awaken this whole town! A 400% increase in daily train traffic (we are told by Canadian National) would be devastating to our family life, and we believe all of Barrington's residents. This rail line travels through multiple major roadways, and the heart of our precious town. The presence of Canadian National (CN) in Barrington would paralyze us all, in regards to: flow of roadway traffic being halted at the many railway intersections, safety of Barrington's children compromised on route to school or parks, noise pollution, toxic fumes injecting poisons into our air we breathe, emergency vehicles unable to arrive swiftly at our hospital, at a fire, a crime scene or an accident! Only mentioning the few points above, aren't these already enough issues to persuade you and your STB colleagues to prevent the Canadian National Railway company from purchasing this EJ&E rail line? We are completely against the above-mentioned acquisition, and we hope you are also. We thank you very much for your time and consideration. Sincerely Yours, The Barney Family."
