I have lived in the Barrington area for over 40 years and daily travel either to Lake Zurich or Barrington from my home on Cuba Road. As there are very limited access roads to and from either village, ANY train backs up traffic. An additional 15 to 25 trains a day, especially those of a mile in length, will serve to gridlock our area. Even today, I have often waited 15-20 minutes while a freight is stopped on the EJ&E tracks waiting for clearance to cross the Union Pacific tracks in Barrington. While stopped, this train blocks Ela Rd., Cuba Rd., Northwest Hwy. (U.S. Route 14) and Hough St. (State Route 59) . There is no way around this stoppage and it is now habitually occurring at least twice a week during rush hour at around 8:15 am. I understand the need for efficient commerce, but what is the cost of all those cars idling their engines while they wait for the train. Barrington already has a problem with people reluctant to brave" the traffic in town -- this will only make the situation go from bad to worse. This line also passes through several wildlife protection areas -- what would be the effect on the wildlife who have not adapted to such an amount of traffic through their "homes"? This is more than an economic issue for the CNN -- it is an economic issue for all of us who live along the EJ&E right of way and, more importantly, it is a quality of life issue."
