1/28/2008 As a resident of Aurora IL I am very concerned about the increase in rail traffic that this forecast as a result of this purchase. There are projections that there will be an increase of over 20 trains per day along this line. The railroad says that his increase in local traffic will be beneficial to the region by eliminating the need for trains to pass through Chicago. One of there statements is that it will reduce the amount of pollution in the air by reducing the number of train engines that will have to sit and wait while working their way through Chicago. What they fail to realize is that every time that they will run a train on the EJ&E tracks they will be causing a huge number of individual autos and trucks to sit with their engines running while the train clears all of the at grade crossings in the area. That means that an additional 7,000 plus trains annually will cause thousands of cars to sit and wait as they pass through. The only benefits that will realized by this sale will be to the railroad that will be able to increase their profits at the expense of all the communities and the hundreds of thousands of people that live and work along this train line.
