ear Sir or Madame Based on information that was made available to us, the taxpaying residents of Lakewood Mill Homeowners Association in Bartlett, IL, I am formally asking the STB to deny the purchase by Canadian National Railway of the tracks currently operated by Eastern Railway Company (Elgin, Joliet, and Eastern Railway). Due to poor planning by our city, we are already at risk for lack of emergency access until our new local fire station opens. Adding an additional 17 trains (on average based on information discussed at the January 17, 2008 public scoping meeting. Clearly there are Air Pollution concerns and Noise Polution concerns that are going unnoticed here. More importantly, Traffic and Safety concerns of the residents of Lakewood Mill are being pushed aside and bartered for financial gain of those not affected by these new concerns. On a good day, we are lucky if we are not stopped for an extended period of time by trains on West Bartlett Road which are stalled/stopped on the tracks. On a typical day, we can expect to essentially double our travel time if we come into contact with one of the average 5.5 trains per day that block access to medical facilities, entertainment facilities, our childrens school, or jobs, etc. By increasing this to 22.5 trains per day, assuming our children are able to attend school and are not afflicted with asthma (a proven side effect of diesel fuel emissions exposure), we can basically consider our small and growing community as a traffic deadlock. The residents of Bartlett, IL will not stand for our needs and safety being pushed aside in order to save a foreign corporation money. Please contact me with any questions you may have.
