The plans by CN Rail to purchase the EJ&E rail line and significantly increase the freight train traffic through the Barrington area, which already experiences a lot of traffic congestion due to freight and commuter trains, would be a disaster. The village is trying to revitalize the town center, but it would become a ghost town as people would avoid going thru it and the remaining business would surely be forced to shut down. Not to mention the delays it would cause to school buses, emergency vehicles, and commuters to jobs. We live on the north side of the tracks, but our kids schools, church, jobs, and preferred grocery store, shops and restaurants are on the south side. Our already lengthy driving times would become even longer, and we'd be forced to take most of our business elsewhere. We hope the severe impact of this acquistion warrants a denial of CN Rail's purchase.
