I am writing to voice my concerns over the Canadian National's purchase of the EJ&E Railroad. I am a resident of the Liberty Square subdivision in New Lenox. The train tracks that the Canadian National RR will be using are two blocks from my home. At present a train comes through approximately 5 times during a 24 hour period. Increasing this to a train or trains coming through 25 to 38 times a day is totally unacceptable. To begin the noise level would be intolerable. I love the peace and quiet of living in New Lenox. With a train/or trains barreling through every hour this tranquility would be shattered. A second and more important concern I have is the hazardous and toxic materials that would be transported on those trains. Our community has many children in it and this would be a definite health concern for them and all who live here. Last is my concern about fire and police vehicles and general traffic being tied up at the intersections of Cedar, Gougar, and/or Nelson. If I need emergency help how will the police or fire departments be able to reach me? How much earlier will I need to leave for work because I will be delayed by trains blocking my exit from New Lenox? Please reconsider your decision to sell the railroad to Canadian National and at the very least please do something so that these concerns will be addressed. I love where I live. I'd hate for my home, peace of mind, my tranquility, and the value of my home to be destroyed because of trains coming through my subdivision 24 hours a day. Thank you for letting me express my concerns on this issue.
