I am strongly opposed to the proposed merger of CN & EJ&E. As a resident of Lake Zurich and frequent commuter to Barrington, Illinois, the ease of commuting, shopping, and traveling on roads crossing the EJ&E right-of-way will be severely compromised by the addition of considerable freight traffic along this railroad line. Quality of life in the area will suffer. As it exists today, this single track line will not support fast-moving trains, hence prolonged crossing delays from long and slow-moving freight trains will result. Any upgrades to this line should be for the purpose of adding commuter passenger service to the route.
