I am writing to oppose the proposed Canadian National Railway Co. acquisition of the Elgin, Joliet, and Eastern Railway Company, STB Finance Docket No. 35087. I am a homeowner who lives adjacent to the tracks. Our neighborhood is noted for its quiet, and that is the reason I purchased my home three years ago. Increasing freight train traffic from 4.4 to 23.4 per day will destroy that peace and quiet. Further, to enter and exit this neighborhood we rely on streets that have grade, or street level crossings, many without gates. For traffic to be stopped 23.4 times a day is untenable, not to mention unsafe since ambulances and firetrucks also use these streets to access our community. Approval of this sale could literally mean the difference bewteen life and death to residents of our community. The tracks run through a forest preserve that also houses a prairie path popular with runners, dog walkers, and horse riders. That many trains would be extremely unsafe, and the added noise and pollution would be unhealthy. I also notice that these trains will be carrying hazardous materials uncomfortably close to our homes. I respectfully ask that you not approve this sale. Best regards, Karen Kaluzsa
