Increasing freight traffice by CN in the Barrington, IL and Fox River Grove area would be disastrous for commuters, schools, sports teams, business and the way of life. Need I remind the board that the stop right before Barrington (Fox River Grove) was the site of a train/school bus accident that killed seven school children not that long ago. In addition, the parking for the train at Fox River Grove is accross from Route 14 and at times almost impossible to cross to get to the lot and back to the train to board. For example, if you miss the seven am train out of Fox Rover Grove, there is one at 7:15. You would think that with 15 minutes to cross the tracks and park, you would have plenty of time. 3 trains come through before that train already, between 7-7:15 and often it is a scramble to get across and park safely. And the school buses have a harder time since the now must stop and look. Adding freight traffic would make that train run unusable. Barrington has a small town feel and more open spaces. The freight cutting through downtown would delay my kids getting to school on time, from Kelsey Road in Lake Barrington to Roslyn Road. It will be even worse for the kids who go to Barrington High School or one of the middle schools. The morning commute for my 3rd and 5th graders is already 40 minutes before school. It will have to be earlier to get them on time if freight increases. The commuter trains in downtown will be delayed, adding time for our day. Downtown businesses will be hurt, and home values will be negatively impacted. The only way the increased traffic should be allowed is if the rail line builds new bridge or below ground crossings so traffic won't be impacted, and kids can cross safely to school. I urge you to not approve ANY freight increase on this rail line! Thank you.
