I am concerned regarding the impact of increased freight trains that will be moved to the EJ&E railroad in the near future. The information that we have been receiving indicates there will be a drastic increase in the number of freight trains that will go through Barrington and the surrounding area, up to as many as 20 trains per day , from the 2 per day presently. I feel we are not being given adequate information. I understand and agree with the need to move some of the freight to less congested areas , however the details of what to expect have not been forthcoming, which is a concern. The EJ&E tracks run directly behind our subdivision. I would request that we work together to arrive at a new schedule which is agreeable to all. Congestion and noise are our biggest concerns, and this railroad crosses heavily travelled main roads, and the Chicago NOrthwestern railroad tracks in several places. The commuter trains have already been impacted/ delayed while waiting for a freight train to cross. Things that need to be considered also are the length of the train, change to railroad crossings, speed of the train, and whistle blowing. All of these things should be discussed and frankly it is discouraging to see only 2 options that are being discussed, the one being maintain the status quo and the other one being to completely disrupt our environment. Please, let's get some meaningful information out there in our newspaper and/or online so that we can make educated comments.
