I have many concerns with CN’s proposed acquisition of the EJ&E line: 1. Safety of nearby communities with CN hauling hazardous materials. If spilled, what will happen to our water? How will communities be affected? 2. Traffic—with a 6,500+ foot train passing every hour, traffic at street-level grade crossings will be slowed—some of which include very busy streets. Such slowed traffic will likely effect emergency response times. Daily long delays will cause drivers’ patience to run thin—making it more likely that a driver will attempt to out-run a train rather than wait the 4+ minutes for it to pass. This could be disastrous. 3. Home values—I am concerned that the STB will not be looking at how our home values will depreciate with this project. Having hazardous materials passing by our homes is bound to affect our homes’ values. 4. Noise and pollution—five times more trains mean more noise and pollution— something residents did not agree to when purchasing their homes. 5. Metra’s STAR line—what will happen to these plans? Will CN agree to Metra using their rails? Please do not allow CN to acquire the EJ&E line.
