I attended the Canadian National public information meeting at the Gary Genesis Center today (1-18-08)representing the Town of Dyer and have the following questions. 1. The projected train traffic increase in Dyer is 24 trains per day. It appears that this could be even higher based on proposed connections to other rail lines in the area. Is this the case and how much higher could this count go? What is the speed limit on the E.J. and E. now and will it increase if the ownership changes? What are the existing peak periods on the line? What would the proposed peak periods become? Is there a proposed schedule for the usage of the track should the ownership change? Is there any data on the average number of rail cars per train for CN? If so, how does that compare to the E.J. and E. trains? Will the results of the scoping meetings be published on this website? Will the draft EIS be published on the website as well? Will the final EIS be published on the website? Dyer has two at grade crossings on the E.J. and E. within 700' of each other. Some of our major concerns are the proposed 400% increase in the number of rail cars carrying hazardous materials, the potential delay in getting emergency vehicles to accident scenes, fires, ambulance calls etc., and air quality issues that result when vehicles are sitting at idle while waiting for trains.
