I strongly oppose the the Canadian National proposed acquisitionof teh EJ&E railroad. Barrington is a small town with very limited rights of way that connect the major roadways and parts of town. Any train, even Metras, can have a dramatic impact on traffic in town, resulting in traffing backing up for miles going through the town, next to multiple schools. There is virtually no benefit but all negative impact to the residents of Barrington and adjacent areas. The negative impact this will have on our way of life is tremendous. The increased riks posed by this to pedestrians, and traffic (people will try to avoid the trains, increasing traffic and speeds on side streets, etc.) in and of itself justifies the outright rejection of this proposal. The citizenry and their needs and requirements must come first over the financial interest of a foreign corporation.
