As an affected homeowner, I am very concerned on what will happen to my property value if the CN project moves forward. We have invested a lot of time an money in our community and CN's aquisition of the EJ&E rail line will do irreparable damage to our area. More importantly, as a father of 2 children, I am EXTREMELY concerned re. the volume of traffic that will be flowing behind my home. The homeowners of Deer Crossing experienced a tragedy this April when a 14 year old boy from our neighborhood was struck and killed by a train. I went to our crossing after the train stopped and I found the HOffman Estates paramedics handing emergency gear thru the train between rail cars. The boy was on the west side of the tracks and the train cut off access from all emergency vehicles. Due to the amount of equipment they had, I offered my assistance to help carry the gear. We ran over 2 miles to find the boy. I can't share details as I was unable to push myself any closer to the scene. But one thing I will never know is if we could of got there sooner, maybe this 14 year old boy would still be with us. I can't begin understand what the family is going through. The fact that emergency equipment and resources were unable to respond in a timely fashion due to the train blocking the intersection should be enough for the STB to decide against this project. You are in a position to make a difference and protect this community and the safety of those who live here. There are other ways for CN to address their needs. I am hopeful that you take these issues into account as you make your decision. Please feel free to give me a call if you would like to discuss my concerns and the concerns of my neighbors in detail. Thank you for your help with this serious issue. Have a nice day.
