I am vehemently opposed to the sale of property in DuPage, Will, and surrounding affected counties to E, J & J Railroads. The impact of the huge increase of railway traffic will greatly affect the school district in which I teach (Indian Prairie School District 204). IPSD is the 3rd largest district in the state and has over 17,000 students and well over 2,000 employees who travel the roads that will be impacted by train crossings predicted to stop traffic at such intersections as Route 34 in Aurora for 10 minutes several times during the day. This is inexcusable when one considers that there are 6 of these crossing in the Indian Prairie attendance zone alone. Learning and teaching will be impacted as students and teachers will be unavoidably delayed due to long, slow trains. The impact on peoples' daily lives as well as on the business community if this sale goes through will be very large as well and very negative. Finally, the potential for loss of life in densely populated areas in Aurora, Naperville, Warrenville, and Plainfield and areas where people live extremely close to train tracks due to train/car collisions and environmental spills cannot be underestimated. The audacity that E J & J RailRoad shows in expecting taxpayers to shoulder most of the cost of upgrading roads and railroad crossings further boggles the mind!
