We cannot have this pass. There are serious risks: risks to those who need to go to the hospital and who will need to wait far longer to reach an emergency medical center....risks to those whose path crosses the freight line - namely 700+ school buses daily, as well as 65+ Metra Rail trains.....risks to the water supply, a shallow acquifer - with no other water supply alternative. Additionally, the environmental impact study was flawed as that it significantly underestimated the traffic flow that CN plans to put over the lines --- with a substantial increase planned in 2010 --- less than 2 years away!! The train ownership laws are archaic and do not reflect the realities of stakeholders....CN, a foreign-owned company, plans to pipe SIGNIFICANT amounts of freight from Asia (including hazardous materials - potentially in double-decker freight cars)....through our community and through IL.....with NO BENEFIT TO THE STATE OR COMMUNITY. There is no tax, no toll, no real requirement to provide mitigation. This is backwards and isn't how a society should make it's decisions. It's time for a change!!! Vote against this acquisition - or alternatively, make CN pay for all of the remediations required (which includes far more than those on the study) --- Do not allow the trains until the remediation is complete. Or ideally, improve the remediations to the current rail system!
